(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have laid Impaired Care & Control charges against a Southampton resident following a traffic stop this past weekend in Blyth. Shortly after 5:00 p.m. Middlesex OPP officers received a call concerning the driver of a Kia sports utility vehicle that was travelling in an erratic manner on Richmond Street near Lucan. Patrols were made of the area however the vehicle was not located at that time. More than five hours later Huron OPP officers received a similar complaint on London Road near Westfield Road. Officers began patrolling the area and shortly after 11:00 p.m. a Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle, a Kia Sorrento parked on King Street in Blyth.
The investigating officer approached the vehicle and observed the driver talking on his cell phone. Upon speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had consumed alcohol and was displaying several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. He was placed under arrest for Impaired Care & Control and subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.
Andrew MAKSYMYK, 52 years of age from Southampton has been charged with Impaired Care & Control and Care & Control Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham on February 18, 2016. He was served with a 90 day automatic driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
