On July 2, 2014 at approximately 2:20 p.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a report of a house full of smoke at 325 Paisley Rd. in Guelph. A resident arrived home to find smoke in the house and smoke alarms sounding. Fire apparatus from four stations responded to the scene. The initial arriving unit entered the house and found the source of the smoke in a bedroom at the back of the house. The fire had mostly self-extinguished because the door to the room and the window were both closed. There was, however, extensive smoke and heat damage throughout the house.
There were no injuries to the resident or firefighting personnel.
Fire Prevention personnel conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire and it was determined to be an electrical appliance that malfunctioned. A preliminary estimate of damage is approximately $25,000.
Guelph Police Services (GPS) were also on scene in support of the Fire Department.
