(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On September 1, 2016 at approximately 8:48 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a horse-drawn vehicle that had overturned in a ditch on Southgate Rd. 26 in the Township of Southgate, ejecting two occupants.
The single axle horse-drawn vehicle was travelling eastbound on Southgate Road 26. A tractor trailer had made a left turn onto Southgate Road 26 from Southgate Sideroad 75. The sound of tractor’s air-brakes caused the horse to bolt into the ditch where the vehicle rolled, ejecting both occupants.
The driver of the horse-drawn vehicle, a 17-year old male, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger, a 19 year old male, was not injured. Both were visiting the area from Wallenstein, Ontario. The horse was not injured.
