Four Youth Injured – 15 Year Old Driver Charged

(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – On June 13, 2016, at approximately 5:39 p.m., the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police, the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Fire Department, responded to a single motor vehicle crash.

A silver Dodge sport utility vehicle (SUV) was travelling eastbound on Elijah Road, when it lost control on the gravel roadway and entered a north side ditch. It struck a culvert, and rolled onto the passenger side, coming to rest with its roof against a hydro pole.

The four occupants of the vehicle, all male youths from Oneida First Nation of the Thames First Nation, Ontario, (ages 6, 10, 12, and 15), were transported with serious injuries, to hospital, and have since been released.

The 15-year-old driver and an adult male from Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation, Ontario, were charged in September in relation to the crash.

The 15-year-old has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The adult male has been charged with criminal negligence cause bodily harm, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accuseds, who cannot be identified under provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), are scheduled to appear in the London courts.
