Four Impaired Drivers Caught In Perth

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have been actively conducting Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) programs as part of the OPP Festive RIDE initiative which runs throughout the holiday period from November 23 until January 2, 2016.

Since last Thursday afternoon, December 16th and Sunday evening December 20th Perth County OPP officers have charged four drivers with impaired driving related charges. Two of the drivers were charged as a result of calls received from the general public and subsequent patrols by officers, while the other two were as a result of OPP RIDE programs.

(ST.MARYS, ON) – On Wednesday December 16, 2015, around 2:30 p.m. the Perth County OPP received a call from a concerned citizen about a male who appeared to be impaired, and was driving a motor vehicle along Parkview Dr. An OPP officer located the suspect vehicle in the area of Queen St. W and Ontario St. S in St.Marys. The male driver displaying signs of impairment by alcohol was arrested and transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville, where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.

46-year-old Scott STEPHENS of St.Marys has been charged with the Criminal Code of Canada offences of “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood”. He was also charged with the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario offence of “driving while under suspension”.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on January 18, 2016, where he will answer to the charges.

(ST.MARYS, ON) – On Thursday December 17, 2015, shortly after 9:30 p.m. Perth County OPP officers responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver at the Tim Horton’s in St.Marys. Officers arrested the driver in the parking lot and transported him for breath tests to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville. The male failed the tests.

53-year-old David ELLIOTT of Stratford has been charged with the Criminal Code of Canada offences of “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood”.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on January 04, 2016, where he will answer to the charges.

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Friday December 18, 2015, before 9 p.m. Perth County OPP officers were conducting a Festive RIDE program at the intersection of Elma St. W. and Victoria Ave S. in Listowel. A vehicle was stopped and the driver displayed signs of impairment. He was taken to the North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel where he failed Intoxilyzer breath tests.

39-year-old Timothy WRIGHT of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with the Criminal Code of Canada offences of “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood”.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on January 13, 2016, where he will answer to the charges.

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Saturday December 19, 2015, shortly before 2 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were conducting a Festive RIDE program at the intersection of Hwy 8 and Perth Road 130 in Sebringville.

Officers observed a vehicle turning into a side street prior to reaching the RIDE program. An officer followed the vehicle and observed it swerving within its own lane. The vehicle was pulled over and while speaking with the driver the officer detected signs of impairment. The male driver was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville for breath tests which the driver failed.

27-year-old Glen Angus Herbert MCCARRON of St.Marys has been charged with the Criminal Code of Canada offences of “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood”.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on January 04, 2016, where he will answer to the charges.

All four drivers had their driver’s licences suspended for 90 days and their motor vehicles were towed and impounded for a period of seven days.

The Perth County OPP will continue its Festive RIDE programs throughout the holiday season. At the same time they would like to ask the public to call and report impaired and erratic drivers. “If you see someone who gets behind the wheel after they have been drinking contact the authorities”.
