FORT FRANCES BREAK AND ENTER INVESTIGATION LEADS TO CHARGES

(Fort Frances, ON) – On August 13, 2013 at approximately 1230 am, members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a 911 call for a break and enter in progress. Officers were dispatched to a Fort Frances address where the home owner had just observed 2 males enter an out building on their property.

Upon arrival, officers observed 2 males in the out building. As a result of an investigation at the scene, 2 males have been charged criminally with the following offences:

Male # 1:

Break and Enter;

Possession of break-in instruments;

Fail to comply with OIC Undertaking;

Trespass by night; and

Mischief Under $5,000.00.

Male #2

Break and Enter;

Possession of break-in instruments;

Trespass by night

Mischief Under $5,000.00.

Male #1 was involved in similar criminal activity in July of this year and has been charged accordingly.

The OPP credits a successful investigation in both of these cases to the vigilance of community members who observed a crime in progress and immediately called 911 for police assistance. The Rainy River District Detachment of the OPP encourages members of the public to be attentive to suspicious individuals. Encouraging trusted neighbours and friends to keep an eye on property in the property owner’s absence is encouraged. Also ensuring your property and valuables are properly secured is a good strategy for crime prevention.

If you see a crime in progress, please call 911 for assistance and be prepared to provide information regarding where the crime is being committed.

If you have information about crimes that have occurred please call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously to CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-8477
