On August 6, 2014 at approximately 12:10 p.m., units of the Guelph Fire Department responded to a laundry dryer on fire at the above mentioned address. Units from Headquarters and Stations 2, 3, 4 and 5 responded. The first arriving unit found light smoke emanating from the building. The first arriving unit was then directed to the basement area and found a large commercial style laundry dryer on fire. The fire was promptly extinguished by firefighters. Other firefighters ensured that all guests and staff had vacated the building when the alarm sounded. Damage was limited to the dryer with heavy smoke damage to the rest of laundry room. Traffic in the area was disrupted by fire apparatus until the incident was deemed over. No injuries were reported by staff, guests or firefighting personnel. Cause and estimate of damage are under investigation by our Fire Prevention Office. Our thanks to GPS and GWEMS who also attended the scene.
