Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

(PORT HOPE, ON) –On May 15, 2015 at 9:00pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received several calls related to a vehicle driving slowly and subsequently stopping in a ‘live’ lane on Highway 401 westbound near Wesleyville Road.

The driver of that vehicle, a Toyota Camry, then exited his car and was struck by a westbound tractor-trailer truck driven by a 57 year old Mississauga man. Passing motorists stopped to assist the man before Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived however he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The truck driver was not injured and charges are not anticipated.

Officers from the OPP Highway Safety Division assisted detachment officers with the investigation. The highway was closed between 9:30pm-2:30am.

The deceased has been identified as Paul KIOKO age 65 of Scarborough, Ontario.
