Fatal Collision Update: Deceased Identified

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing their investigation into the crash on Highway 17 east of Cobden which claimed one life. The Highway was closed from Haley Station to Cobden in both directions for more than 12 hours.

At 10:16 am officers, paramedics and Whitewater Region Fire Department attended Highway 17 for a two vehicle collision involving a transport truck and trailer and a passenger car. The truck, a 2014 Manac was driven by Roy SYLVAIN 36 of Mansfield Que. was travelling westbound. The car was a 2006 Toyota corolla and was driven by David BEAN 51 of Caledon, Ont. Mr. Bean was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Sylvain was treated for his injuries at hospital. Preliminary investigation shows the car was eastbound and entered the westbound lane and was struck head on by the transport. The transport entered the south ditch and started on fire. Diesel fuel was also spilled at the scene. The truck was carrying a load of sawdust.

The Highway was closed for the Technical Collision Investigators to complete their work, cleanup of the spilled fuel and the removal of the transport truck. Provincial Constable Kevin Rebertz led the investigation. No charges will be laid.
