(PETAWAWA, ON) – On Saturday April 23, 2016 just before 500am officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious two vehicle collision on Highway 17 involving a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle. The collision took place at the intersection of Highway 17 and Murphy Road in the municipality of Petawawa. The 19 year old male driver, and lone occupant of the passenger vehicle, was deceased at the scene. The 53 year old male driver and 53 year old male passenger of the tractor trailer were taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting with the investigation and Highway 17 is closed between Black Bay Road and Paquette Road. Local detours are in place as the highway is expected to be closed until the late afternoon. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
