(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On September 15 and 16, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received reports of five break and enters to area buildings.
On September 15, at about 8:30 am OPP investigated a break and enter to the Alnwick-Haldimand Municipal Building on County Road 2 in Grafton. Forced entry allowed suspects to gain access inside and rummage through municipal files and cause extensive damage to the internal vault, but access was not gained to its contents. Approximately $100 in garbage bag tags and petty cash was stolen.
At 2:48 pm OPP received a break and enter report to the St. George Anglican Church on County Road 2 in Grafton as well. Suspects had gained access to the church’s prayer area where filing cabinets had been rummaged through. Nothing valuable was stolen and no money was kept on site. The detachment Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) attended to assist with the investigation.
On September 16, OPP received a second church break and enter report to the Baltimore United Church on Burwash Road in Hamilton Township. Suspects had gained access by forced entry to a kitchen window to get inside the church and then forced entry into the church office. Nothing was reported missing or stolen.
In the Municipality of Brighton, on September 16 at about 9:00 am OPP investigated a residential break and enter with forced entry on Old Wooler Road east of County Road 30. The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) attended to assist SOCO with this investigation. Unknown value of the stolen property has not been determined as of this media release.
In the Municipality of Trent Hills just after 4:00 pm on September 16, an attempted break and enter was reported on County Road 8 in Hoards Station. The home owner returned after being away briefly to find the front door kicked in and damage to his garage door. Damage costs are approximately $150.
Northumberland OPP continues to investigate these occurrences.
