ERRATIC DRIVING LEADS TO ARREST

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On April 12, 2014 officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol when a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner was observed.

Upon stopping the vehicle on Killarney Bay Road, the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation the driver, Matthew WESTLAKE, 26 years of age, of Brock Township, was charged with the following offences:

Dangerous Driving, contrary to the Criminal Code (CC)
Impaired Driving, contrary to the CC
Fail or refuse to provide breath sample, contrary to the CC
Drive motor vehicle with expired validation permit, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 7 days.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on May 8, 2014.
