(CALEDON, ON) – On November 1st, 2014 shortly after 7:50 pm, Community Response Unit (CRU) officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check program on Winston Churchill Boulevard, north of East Garafraxa Town Line. The officers observed as the driver of a blue Chevy. R10 stopped prior to entering the program. The driver then slowly entered the spot check and upon speaking with the driver, the officers immediately detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. A Roadside Screening Device Test was administered which resulted in a Fail. Subsequently the driver was arrested and a search uncovered a quantity of drugs, believed to be marijuana and an open container of liquor. The driver was transported to Detachment for further testing.
As a result of the testing, Nicholas J. HARDING, 49, from Erin was arrested and charged with Over 80 and Possession of a Schedule II Substance. He is also charged with Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor.
The 90-day Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused was released and he is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on December 8, 2014.
