East Algoma OPP Press Releases

(SPANISH, ON)- On December 31, 2016, shortly after 12:30 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program in the Town of Spanish. Police checked 188 vehicles at the junction of Front Street and Trunk Road.

As a result, three persons were charged under the Highway Traffic Act and issued provincial offence notices:

Spencer GRAKIST, 21 years of age, from Ottawa, Ontario, was charged with: Speeding, contrary to section 128.

Andrew GILL, 41 years of age, from St Catharines, Ontario, was charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a).

Tamara MALCOLM, 34 years of age, from Serpent River First Nation, Ontario, was charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a).

MALE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(SPANISH, ON) – On December 31, 2016, shortly after 9:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway west of the Town of Spanish.

Police observed a vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. When speaking with the driver, the officer observed open liquor in the vehicle and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol.

As a result, Dylan PELLETIER, 33 years of age, from Serpent River First Nation, Ontario, was charged with:

Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;

Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b);

Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana-Under 30 grams; and

Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 9, 2017.

INTOXICATED MALE ARRESTED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On January 1, 2017, shortly after 2:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to male that was intoxicated a local restaurant in the Town of Blind River.

Police located the male sleeping at a table in the restaurant and he was arrested. The investigation determined the male had breached his bail conditions.

As a result, Devin BEAN, 23 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with:

Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code; and

Being Intoxicated in a Public Place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 9, 2017.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISON – FEMALE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On January 1, 2017, shortly after 4:30 p.m., a member of Mississauga First Nation Police Service (MFNPS) with the assistance of East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle in a ditch on Astles Road, in the Town of Blind River.

Once on scene the officer determined the vehicle had skidded off the road and came to rest against a hydro pole. As the officer was speaking to the driver, he determined the female driver had been consuming alcohol.

As a result, Meagan DEAVY, 25 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

Care or Control While Impaired (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a); and

Care of Control Over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 9, 2017.
