East Algoma OPP Press Releases

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On October 24, 2016, shortly after 10:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fraud at a local pharmacy in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation revealed, a male provided the pharmacy with a fraudulent prescription that had been tampered with. The male left in a taxi and was later located at a residence in Mississauga First Nation.

As a result, Cory NIGANOBE, 38 years of age, from Mississauga First Nation, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

Use, Deals, Acts on Forged Document, contrary to section 368(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and

Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 1, 2016.

SUSPENDED FEMALE CHARGED WITH RACE MOTOR VEHICLE

(IRON BRIDGE, ON) – On October 24, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 in the Town of Iron Bridge.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on the highway. The vehicle was travelling over 50 kilometres in a posted 60 kilometre per hour zone. A traffic stop was initiated. The investigation determined the female driver was also suspended.

As a result, Tamara GOODMURPHY, 19 years of age, from Thessalon, Ontario was charge with:

Race Motor Vehicle-Excessive Speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic (HTA); and

Drive While Under Suspension (X2), contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA.

The vehicle was towed.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 7, 2016.
