East Algoma OPP Press Releases

(SERPENT RIVER, ON) – On November 10, 2016, shortly after 10:00 a.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 near the Town of Serpent River.

Shortly after 10:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation determined the driver was suspended.

As a result, Jesse SLOSS, 27 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was charged with:

Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 18, 2016.

SUSPENDED DRIVER CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On November 10, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation revealed the driver was suspended.

As a result, Bradley MAZZOCATO, 26 years of age, from Nanaimo, British Columbia was charged with: Driving Under Licence of Other Jurisdiction While Suspended in Ontario, contrary to section 36 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 18, 2016.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH NO INSURANCE

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On November 10, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 2:00 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle and queried the licence plate. A vehicle stop was initiated. Investigation determined the driver did not have insurance on his vehicle.

As a result, Andrew RENELT, 50 years of age, from Blind River, Ontario, was charged with: Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, contrary to the Canada Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 18, 2017.

INTOXICATED BUS PASSENGER ARRESTED

(SPANISH, ON) – On November 11, 2016, shortly after 9:30 p.m., members of the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance on a Greyhound bus where an intoxicated male was being belligerent with other passengers around him. The driver of the bus wanted the male removed and arrangements were made to meet officers in the Town of Spanish at a local gas station.

Police arrived at the scene and were advised that the intoxicated male had left the area on foot. Officers located the intoxicated male a short time later on Hamilton Street. The male was arrested.

As a result, Robert BUSH, 28 years of age, from Toronto, Ontario, was issued three provincial offence notices and charged with:

Consuming Liquor in Other than Licenced Premises, Residence or Private Place, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act (LLA);

Having Liquor in Open Container in Other than Licenced Premises, Residence or Private Place, contrary to section 31(2) of the LLA; and

Being Intoxicated in a Public Place, contrary to section 31(4) of the LLA.

The male was lodged overnight at Blind River OPP detachment until he was sober.

SUSPENDED DRIVER CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On November 12, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., police observed a vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated to verify the driver and vehicle documents. Investigation determined the male driver was suspended.

As a result, Calahan CUNNINGHAM, 25 years of age from Coburg, Ontario, was charged with: Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 18, 2017.
