Dump Truck Driver Takes Out Power Lines On Hwy 6

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On July 19, 2017 at approximately 2:35 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Hwy. 6 in the Township of Southgate after receiving a report that a dump truck had struck hydro lines causing damage to the pole and knocking out power in the area.

Police attended and found that a 2016 Volvo dump truck was working on road construction on Hwy. 6 at the time of the incident. The driver of the truck failed to lower the bucket and as a result the bucket came into contact with hydro lines pulling them down to near ground level.

Hydro One was contacted and attended the scene.

Hwy. 6 between Grey Rd. 109 and McFarlin Drive was closed for several hours.

The driver of the dump truck, 66-year old Camille DESROCHERS, of Guelph, Ontario, was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Over Height Load under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

There were no injuries reported.
