The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 97 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Nine people were arrested and four were held for a bail hearing.
Man charged with Care and Control of Motor Vehicle while Impaired and Over 80
At 8:30 p.m. on December 28, 2014, Chatham-Kent Police attended Muirkirk Line, Muirkirk, for a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle was called in after a local resident approached it and realized it was occupied by a lone male, believed to be intoxicated by alcohol. The attending officer made observations and arrested the man for Care and Control While Impaired by alcohol. His vehicle was towed and he was transported to Police Headquarters for further breath tests.
Alan KANKULA, 55 years, of Orford Township, has been charged with Care and Control of Motor Vehicle while Impaired, and Over 80 while in Care and Control. He was later released from custody with a future court date.
At 12:32 a.m. this morning, a female attended a Chatham pizza shop and asked to use the phone. After using the phone, she was caught stealing money from the tip jar. Upon Police arrival, the female was arrested and it was learned that she had warrants for breaching probation and failing to attend court.
The 18 year old Blenheim female was arrested and charged with Theft and Possession Under 5000, Breach of Probation and Failing to Attend Court. She was held in custody, pending bail hearing.
Man charged with Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Breach of Recognizance and Public Mischief
Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning, a vehicle was stopped after an officer observed it driving erratically. A passenger was observed with a suspicious bulge in his sweater pocket, he removed a large can of bear pepper spray. It was believed that the man intended on using the spray and he was removed from the vehicle and arrested for possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose. Upon initially performing a cursory search of the male, a small piece of what appeared to be crack cocaine was located in his pocket. Once the man was transported to Police Headquarters, a more thorough search was conducted, and approximately 5 grams of what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine was found concealed in his clothing. Through investigation, it was found that the man also gave a false name in order to avoid further charges, as he was already on current charges with conditions.
The 31 year old Windsor man was charged with Possessing Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, two counts of breaching his Recognizance for possessing drugs and breaching curfew, and Public Mischief for giving false identity. He was held in custody, pending bail hearing.
