Drunk Driving Motorcyclist Caught Going 2X Speed Limit

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Saturday July 04, 2015 shortly before 9 p.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was driving south bound on Perth Road 130 south of Perth Line 20 in an unmarked cruiser. The cruiser was passed by a south bound motorcycle at a high rate of speed. The officer followed the motorcycle and paced it at nearly 2X the posted speed limit.

The motorcyclist pulled over for police after a lengthy pace. The officer detected the strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on the motorcyclist’s breath, and he also displayed signs of impairment. The motorcyclist was arrested and taken to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.

Luc Arther Rene VANDEKERCKHOVE (60) of St.Marys has been charged with “driving while ability impaired by alcohol”, and “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on August 10, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charges.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his Triumph Thruxton motorcycle has been impounded for a period of seven days.
