(Marmora, ON) – On October 20, 2016 at 1:20 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P conducted a vehicle stop on Springbrook Road in the Township of Stirling Rawdon. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were both arrested and charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
A short time later members of the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit and members of Central Hastings Detachment executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant at a residence and a garage on Forsyth Street in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake.
Investigators seized marihuana, cannabis resin, cocaine, other Schedule I substances, prescription medication as well as other drug related paraphernalia. A large sum of money, a bullet proof vest, a dirt bike and an all-terrain vehicle were also seized.
As a result 33 year old Brent GERARD of Marmora, ON was charged with
Possession of Marihuana – under 30 grams
Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis resin – under 1gram
Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis resin – over 1gram
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Possession for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
Two counts of Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
In addition 26 year old Lauren GERARD of Marmora, ON was charged with
Possession of a Marihuana – under 30grams
Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis resin – over 1gram
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Possession for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
Two counts of Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Both above accused parties were held in custody pending a bail hearing on October 21, 2016.
In addition on October 15, 2016 members of Central Hastings O.P.P initiated an investigation after family in Marmora reported receiving threats of harm relating to an outstanding monetary debt. As a result 33 year old Brent GERARD of Marmora, ON and 33 year old Robert THOMPSON of Marmora, ON were both arrested and charged with three counts of Extortion.
GERARD was held in custody pending a bail hearing on October 21, 2016.
THOMPSON was released from custody and will appear in Ontario Provincial Court of Justice – Belleville on November 24, 2016.
