DRIVER FLEES FROM TRAFFIC STOP

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Three people are in custody after an Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a pick-up truck for a traffic violation earlier this morning around 9:35am on January 23rd, 2014.

The officer was in the process of stopping a Red Chevy Pick-up truck when the vehicle pulled into a private driveway of a residence on Sunset Road, Talbotville, Southwold Township. At that time the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot behind the residence. Two other males, who were also in the vehicle, remained inside the vehicle.

Investigation revealed that both the truck and licence plates on it had been stolen overnight from a business in London, ON and as a result the two males who remained in the vehicle were immediately taken into custody.

At approximately 11:45am Elgin OPP with the assistance the OPP’s Emergency Response Team and the City of St. Thomas Police Services K9 Unit; police located an insecure residence a short distance away from the scene. A search of the residence resulted in police finding the suspect hiding in the attic. The subject was taken into custody without incident.

When necessary the ability to utilize resources between services certainly enhances public safety through-out the communities we police. I am pleased that this incident has been brought to a successful resolution with three people in custody, no injuries and several charges pending. All in all it was a job well done by all the involved officers.” Stated Inspector Brad Fishleigh, Elgin County OPP Detachment Commander.

The investigation in ongoing and charges are pending. Release of the suspects names is pending charges being laid.
