DRIVER CHARGED WITH CARELESS DRIVING

(SEVERN TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a North Bay man with Careless Driving following an incident on Highway 11 in Severn Township.

On April 20, 2014 at approximately 11:52 a.m., an OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 11 in Severn Township. The officer noted that the vehicles speeds were inconsistent and the vehicle was weaving within its travel lane. When the officer pulled up alongside of the vehicle they observed the driver with his head down. The officer further observed the driver eating with a fast food container in one hand and a fork in the other.

The male was charged with Careless Driving in relation to the incident.

The OPP would like to remind the motoring public that Distracted Driving consists of more than talking or texting on a hand held device. Drivers can be charged with Careless Driving if the officer feels that they do not have proper control of their vehicle.
