DRIVER CHARGED AND CAR SEIZED ON HIGHWAY

(SOUTH-WEST OXFORD TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On July 5, 2014 at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Highway 401 westbound, east of Highway 19, a police officer from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division, observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

Police observed a vehicle travelling a speed of 191km/h in a posted 100km/h zone. Based on the observations and investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, the driver, a 44 year old male of Belleville, Michigan has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Amritpal HAYER was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following:

Change lane – not in safety

Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

Race A Motor Vehicle

The vehicle has been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period and his driver’s license is suspended.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers and pedestrians to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.

OPP would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
