DRIVER AIR LIFTED TO HOSPITAL FOLLOWING COLLISION

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON)- On November 23, 2013 at approximately 4:20 p.m. officers from the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Muskoka Ambulance Service (EMS) and Muskoka Lakes Fire Department (MLFD) responded to a single vehicle collision approximately two kilometers north of Muskoka Road 118 West on Penninsula Road.

From the initial investigation conducted at the scene, it would appear the driver was travelling north bound on Penninsula Road. The vehicle slid off the roadway and struck a tree on the right shoulder. The male driver needed to be extricated from the vehicle by MLFD.

The male driver suffered serious injuries while the female passenger sustained minor injuries. Both occupants were transported to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) for medical treatment. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, the male driver was air lifted to Sudbury for further medical treatment.

Bracebridge OPP officers were assisted at the scene by members of the Central Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) Unit.

At this time, the driver is listed in critical condition.

The collision is still under investigation.
