DISTRACTED DRIVER CAUGHT

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A local male faces two Highway Traffic Act related offences after an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed him texting.

On April 21, 2014 an OPP officer observed a vehicle at the intersection of Walsh Road and Kawartha Lakes Road 36. As the officer approached he noted that the driver was texting and was not wearing a seat belt.

As a result of the officers observations Jonathan NEWNHAM, 22 years of age, of Lindsay, was charged with both offences.

Texting while driving creates a distraction that can lead to collisions. The OPP would like to remind motorists that safe driving is in their hands – hands on the wheel, not the phone.
