DISQUALIFIED DRIVER ARRESTED AT RIDE CHECK

(Prince Edward County, ON)—On January 10, 2014 at 7:19pm officers with the Ontario Provincial Police Prince Edward County detachment had conducted a RIDE check on County Roads 5 and 6 in the Ward of Sophiasburgh. Officers observed a motor vehicle that had failed to stop for police. The suspect vehicle was stopped quickly by police and learned that the male driver had provided a false name, is disqualified to drive and was in possession of stolen property.

55-year old Derrick BUNTON of Prince Edward County was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Operation While Disqualified, contrary to Section 259(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. (x2)
Obstructing a Peace Officer, contrary to Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to Section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (x2)
Use Plate Not Authorized for Motor Vehicle, contrary to Section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act
Owner Operate Motor Vehicle-No Insurance, contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused was released from police custody on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton on February 5, 2014.
