The Quinte West OPP has received an increased number of complaints regarding students not using crosswalks while crossing along Dundas St West. The Highway Traffic Act states “no pedestrian shall cross the roadway except within a portion so markedâ€Â.
Failing to use a marked crosswalk could lead to a student being struck by a vehicle. The Quinte West OPP would like to ask parents to encourage their children to properly cross the highway using the designated cross-walks and the possible consequences of not using the crosswalks.
Anyone that does not abide the rules of the road is subject to being charged with “Pedestrian fail to use cross-walk†and will receive a fine of $50.
