(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Sunday, April 20, 2014, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single motor vehicle collision involving a utility pole.
A 2003 Dodge Caravan was being operated northbound on Toronto Street North, Markdale, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands, when it veered off the road and struck a utility pole. As a result of the damage to the pole, area homes and businesses experienced several power surges.
The Grey Highlands Fire Department, Ontario Hydro, Markdale Cable and Bell Canada assisted at the scene.
The lone, 27 year old driver from Markdale, was taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The OPP continue to investigate the cause of the collision, however, neither excessive speed nor alcohol appear to have played a role in this collision. Anyone with information, which may assist, is asked to contact Grey County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
