Chatsworth Man Facing Impaired Driving, Weapons And Drug Charges

(GODERICH, ON) – A traffic stop for an expired licence plate sticker has led to numerous charges being laid against a 33-year-old from Coatsworth, ON. On Saturday, November 5, 2016 at approximately 4:35 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Ford F-150 pickup truck travelling northbound on Victoria Street North with an expired validation sticker. The pickup truck was subsequently stopped and the driver was questioned about the expired validation on his licence plate.

While speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. As a result, a roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a Fail. The driver was promptly placed under arrest for the offence of Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He was later transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath and both samples registered above the legal limit.

During the course of the investigation officers also observed several long guns inside the pickup truck. A subsequent check revealed the driver did not hold a valid licence to be in possession of the non-restricted shotguns and rifles. The firearms were seized and a further search was conducted which resulted in officer’s seizing open alcohol and illegal drugs.

As a result, Jeremy COOK, 33 years of age from Coatsworth, ON has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm (6) counts, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Codeine), Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana), Driving Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate.

He now has a court appearance scheduled for December 5, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. His driver’s licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days and his motor vehicle will be impounded for seven days.
