The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 99 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
Man Charged with Robbery CK15029398
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a shoplifting complaint at the Downtown Chatham Centre.
Yesterday afternoon around 3:15 p.m. the man attended the Sears Mall on King Street West and placed socks in a grocery bag that he was carrying. The man exited the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise valued at $16.00. The loss prevention officer observed the man and followed him outside. The officer identified himself and verbally placed the man under arrest for theft. The man threw the socks on the ground and walked away. Upon being confronted again by the loss prevention officer, the man brandished a knife and held it at his side. The officer allowed the man to walk away and police were contacted.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m. police located the man in the area of Park Street and William Street. Through investigation, police also learned that the man was currently bound by a Probation Order not to possess any weapon as defined by the Criminal Code. The 47-year-old Windsor man has been charged with robbery and breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man and Woman Charged with Assault with a Weapon CK15029171
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man and woman in connection with an assault complaint.
On September 25, 2015 around 10:00 a.m. the man and woman began texting a family member accusing him of theft. Around 12:30 p.m. the pair attended his home in Wallaceburg and confronted him outside. The woman exited the vehicle with a baseball bat and struck him in the legs multiple times and smashed two windows out of his vehicle. The man was in possession of an axe and threw it, narrowly missing his family member. Police were contacted and the pair fled the area.
Last night around 9:00 p.m. police located the man and woman and they were both taken into custody. The 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman, both from Muirkirk, have been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5000. They were both released pending a future court date of October 16, 2015.
Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrant in Blenheim CK15029466
In June 2015, the woman was charged with theft of a credit card, possession of a credit card and use of a credit card in regards to a fraud investigation. She was released with conditions pending a future court date. On September 8, 2015, the woman failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
This morning, shortly after 3:00 a.m. police located the woman and she was arrested on the outstanding warrant. The 30-year-old Harwich Township woman was released pending a future court date of October 16, 2015.
Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK15027471
On September 9, 2015, the woman attended the residence of a man known to her in Chatham. While he was in the washroom, the woman stole his wallet and fled the apartment. Police were contacted and attempts were made to locate the woman, however when unsuccessful, a warrant was issued for her arrest for the offences of theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.
This morning, just before 2:00 a.m. police located the woman in Chatham and she was arrested on the outstanding warrant. The 38-year-old Thamesville woman was released pending a future court date of October 16, 2015.
