Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 29July2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 133 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested.

Man from Wanted List Arrested in Chatham CK16023850

Last night, just before midnight, police located the man on King Street East who was wanted on outstanding warrants for assault, mischief under $5000 and breach of probation.

The 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Obstruct Police CK16023740

Yesterday morning around 8:10 a.m. police responded to the area of Park Avenue West near Sass Road in Chatham in regards to a suspicious person. The officer located the man walking in the middle of the roadway with a shopping cart full of items. He was impeding traffic and asked to move off the roadway. As the officer tried to verify his identity, the man provided a false name.

Through investigation, his true identity was learned and he was arrested on two outstanding warrants and for obstructing police. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of his Ontario Health Card which further confirmed his name.

The 37-year-old Chatham man was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Disturbance Leads to Assault Charges CK16023845

Last night at 11:00 p.m. the victim was seated in a chair in his residence when the man, known to him, forced his way through the locked door with a metal baseball bat in his hand. The man assaulted the 52-year-old victim and fled the area on a bicycle.

The victim was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention of non-life-threatening injuries.

Just before 4:00 a.m. this morning, police located the man on Richmond Street and he was arrested. The 27-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling house, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle CK16023803

Yesterday, the man attended a residence on Talbot Trail in Blenheim and stole a 2010 Ford F-150 pick-up truck from the homeowner who is known to him.

Just before 7:00 p.m. last night, police located the man sitting inside the truck in a parking lot on London Road in Thamesville.

The 45-year-old Thamesville man was arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000 and failing to comply with his Probation Order as he was currently on conditions not to attend that address or communicate with the homeowner. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Indecent Act in Chatham CK16023787

Yesterday afternoon, the man attended a business in Chatham and began following a woman while pleasuring himself through the pocket of his shorts. Store security was contacted and the incident was caught on video.

Through investigation, police identified the man and he was arrested. The 23-year-old Harwich Township man was charged with committing an indecent act. He was released pending a future court date of August 19, 2016.

Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK16023824

Last night around 7:45 p.m. police responded to the area of Baseline Road and Murray Street in Wallaceburg in regards to a suspicious man. Upon arrival, the officer observed the man walking away from the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the man was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court and three counts of breach of probation.

Daniel Azevedo, 25 years, of Wallace Street in Wallaceburg was arrested and later released pending a future court date of August 9, 2016.

Break and Enter in Chatham CK16023767

Sometime July 27, 2016 between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) attended the new Giant Tiger store currently under construction on Grand Avenue West.

The suspect(s) stole various tools valued at approximately $1300. All the tools had the initials D.A. written on them with black marker.
