(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) On November 1, 2015 officers of the Bracebridge Detachment responded to a call for service indicating a bear had been shot in the residential area of Pinewood Drive, Bracebridge. Upon arrival at the scene officers found a deceased black bear that appeared to have been shot. Live bear cubs were located in a tree nearby. As a result of the investigation a 65 year-old male from Bracebridge has been charged with Careless Use of a Firearm. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on December 1, 2015 to answer to his charges.
Resources have been engaged to safely remove the live bear cubs from the area. Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is continuing with the investigation.
