(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Tuesday November 19, 2013 the Black Creek Bridge in Sebringville will be dedicated in memory of a fallen Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer.
Constable Sam Ankenmann died on June 29, 1968, in an on-duty crash when he lost control of his cruiser in foggy conditions on Hwy 7/8 near Stratford and crashed into a ditch. At the time of his death Constable Ankenmann was posted at the Sebringville OPP detachment, making the location of the memorial signs at the Black Creek Bridge in the heart of Sebringville so fitting.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Sebringville Community Centre 302 Huron Rd. in Sebringville. OPP Commissioner Lewis will officially dedicate the bridge in memory of Constable Sam Ankenmann.
Ontario has permitted the naming of bridges and highway structures to fallen police officers since 2002. (The Highway Memorial for Fallen Police Officers Act).
