BREAK AND ENTER CHARGES-UPDATE-FURTHER CHARGES LAID

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with assistance from the Kenora OPP Street Crime Unit have charged three people in of a number of break and enters that been reported in the last week.

On Monday September 1, 2014 around 12:45 pm, police were advised that a home in the Lakeside area had been broken into. Unknown suspects had forced entry to the home and stolen property including cash, alcohol and electronics.

Two more break and enters were reported on September 3 shortly before 11:30 pm and just after midnight on September 4, 2014. Police were advised that suspects had broken into a shed in Lakeside and attempted to break into a home in the north end of the city and fled on foot when the owner woke up.

Police attended the Lakeside location immediately and located a female suspect at the scene. As a result of this investigation, 30 year old Debralee MCKAY of Kenora has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and three counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking (s 145(5.1) &145(3) CC). She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

While police were conducting their investigation, two other suspects were located in the area. They were found to be in possession of property from the September 1 break in. They were arrested and as a result 23 year old Naiche KEESIC and 18 year old Rochelle KOKOPENACE of Kenora have been charged with Possession of Stolen Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 (sec 354(1)(a) CC). They have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, police were able to link and lay charges in connection with several additional break and enters in the same areas.

MCKAY has been charged with Break, Enter and Commit an Indictable Offence (sec 348(1)(b) CC).

KEESIC has been charged with four counts of Break, Enter and Commit an Indictable Offence (sec 348(1)(b) CC).

KOKOPENACE has been charged with five counts of Break, Enter and Commit an Indictable Offence (sec 348(1)(b) CC).
