Break and Enter

Several seasonal residences were broken into during the past week. On August 17 a cottage on Matawatchan Rd was discovered broken into. The break in occurred during the previous 2 week period. Stolen property included keys, binoculars, a flashlight, a multi-tool and pillowcases. Provincial Constable Marc Bennett is investigating. A hunting camp off Highway 41 near Griffith was broken into near the end of July. The owner attended on August 17 and reported the incident to police. Damage was done to a door to get inside, and a mess was made but nothing appears to have been stolen. Provincial Constable Kyle Mask is investigating.

A home on Lower Spruce Hedge Road in Greater Madawaska Township was entered while the homeowner was away for an extended period of time. Police could find no sign of forced entry, and jewelry including chains, earrings, watches, rings and jewelry containers were stolen. Provincial Constable Marc Bennett is investigating.

A storage shed on Robertson St in Douglas was entered between August 9-18. There was no forced entry. A 50cc red Giovanni dirt bike was stolen along with several gas cans. Provincial Constable Kyle Mask is investigating.

During the evening of Monday August 19 Renfrew OPP officers were dispatched to a possible break and enter in progress and several suspects were identified to police. Witnesses reported a group of people breaking into Martin Cycle and Small Engine on Argyle St. but nothing was stolen. Officers patrolled and discovered the RCAF Wing had also been broken into and alcohol stolen. A group of youths were located and detained on Munroe Ave. The investigation revealed two of the youths were responsible for the damage and break ins. A 14-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, both from Renfrew were arrested and charged with one count of break, enter and theft, and one count of mischief under $5,000. They were released from custody on a youth promise to appear in Youth court in Renfrew on October 21. Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act they cannot be identified. All of the stolen alcohol was recovered. Provincial Constable Kyle Mask led the investigation.
