(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) marine unit continues to patrol the waterways within the City of Kawartha Lakes to ensure that boat operators are complying with the laws.
The City of Kawartha Lakes detachment marine unit has noted that compliance regarding life jackets has been positive – the majority of boaters have had their lifejackets! However, officers continue to encourage boaters to wear the personal floatation devices.
It is important for boat operators to know the rules and regulations that are in place to ensure that boating is safe and fun.
On August 18, 2014 the local marine unit was on patrol on Cameron Lake when a boat was observed towing two youths without the required spotter. As a result, Patrick CRILLY, 47 years of age, of Orangeville, was charged with failure to keep watch while towing, contrary to the Canada Shipping Act. The accused received a fine of $305.00 for the offence.
