(SOUTH FRONTENAC, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police have recently investigated several incidents of ‘driveway pavement scams’.
The incidents involve suspects identifying themselves as pavement contractors and arrange to provide service. Unsuspecting victims then provide payment for work that is never completed.
There are many legitimate contractors in Ontario, however, police urge residents to verify employment credentials of anyone offering to provide service.
Paving business owners are also urged to ensure subcontractors are legitimate by taking the time to verify individual credentials.
As victims feel that they are responsible, and embarrassed for falling victim to these offences, many incidents are not reported to police.
