ARREST MADE IN COUNTERFEIT MONEY SPREE

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested one male using counterfeit $100 Canadian currency to purchase items from local businesses in multiple jurisdictions.

On December 1, 2013 at approximately 1:30 pm the OPP Huntsville and Bracebridge detachments received information of counterfeit bills being passed at local businesses by a male suspect. The vehicle used by the male was then identified in Gravenhurst and the information was passed on to the Orillia Detachment who located the vehicle and arrested the male.

Investigation then revealed that the accused had also purchased items in the City of North Bay using counterfeit money. The accused then attended a local business in Huntsville returning the items for cash. North Bay City Police will continue to investigate similar occurrences in their area.

The arrested male identified as Pernel PERSAD 26-year-old of Hamilton has been charged with

CC 129(a) Obstruct Peace Officer
CC 452(a) Uttering Counterfeit Money X3

The accused will be held for a bail hearing in Bracebridge on Monday December 2, 2013 to answer to his charges.
