Almaguin Highlands Report

(SUNDRIDGE, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) to assist with an investigation regarding a breach of conditions.

On Tuesday October 18, 2016 at approximately 10:00 a.m. MNR contacted the OPP to report a male was in possession of a firearm which was in contravention of the conditions on his Undertaking from previous charges.

OPP arrested the accused, Christopher STICKLAND, 40 of Sundridge Ontario and charged him with two counts of fail to comply with undertaking, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code (CC) and unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to section 91(1) CC.

The accused was released from custody after bail court and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday November 10, 2016 in Sundridge Ontario

POLICE INVESTIGATE THEFT OF TRAILER

(MCMURRICH/MONTEITH TWP, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of a 2006 homemade trailer that was stolen from a Bartlett Lake Road.

The trailer was taken sometime between Sunday September 25, 2016 and Wednesday October 12, 2016 and is described as a heavy trailer with a bunker loader and 2X6 sliding rails. The trailer is black and valued at approximately $1200.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this theft should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

R.I.D.E PROGRAM LEADS TO ARREST

(STRONG TWP, ON) – On Saturday October 22, 2016 the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a R.I.D.E. program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) at Highway 124 and Mountainview Road.

A Vehicle approached the program and subsequently police arrested the driver, Alan SMALL, 49 of Strong Township with the following offences:

• Driving while ability impaired, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

• Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) CC

• Fail to have insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday November 24, 2016 in Sundridge Ontario

SCARBOROUGH MAN ARRESTED FOR DRUG OFFENCES

(RYERSON TWP, ON) – On Wednesday September 28, 2016 at approximately 8:45 p.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigation Unit was patrolling in the Village of Burk’s Falls. The officers noticed a vehicle turning onto Highway 520 travelling at a high rate of speed and subsequently stopped the vehicle near Midlothian Road. While officers were speaking to the driver, they noticed what appeared to marihuana inside the vehicle and subsequently arrested the driver.

Police investigation also revealed that the driver, Yousef JEGHBIR, 26 of Scarborough Ontario was in possession of cocaine. Police charged the accused with the following offences:

• Two counts of possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine and other drug, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 4 (CDSA)

• Possession of a schedule II substance – marihuana, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA

• Two counts of possession of a schedule III substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA

The accused was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday November 10, 2016 in Sundridge Ontario
