83 Year Old Driver Fatally Backs Into Pedestrian

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County detachment is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision at a South Drive, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Thursday, January 7, 2016 at approximately 2:06 p.m., OPP and Norfolk County Paramedics were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

Through the course of investigation, it has been determined that a 68-year-old female of Norfolk County, Ontario was walking westbound on the side walk along South Drive. A pick-up truck being operated by an 83-year-old male of Norfolk County, Ontario was reversing southbound from a driveway when the vehicle and pedestrian collided.

As a result, the 68-year-old female suffered serious life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending coroner. The driver of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries.

Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with the investigation.

Identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

South Drive between John Street and Kent Street South will be closed for approximately 6 hours to allow for further investigation.

The investigation is continuing.
