76 Year Old Accidentally Drives Wheelchair Into Water

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment was called to investigate an incident at an Old Cut Boulevard, Long Point, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Saturday, September 26, 2015 at approximately 12:27 p.m., Police and Paramedics were called to the address after a family member entered the water.

Through the course of investigation it was determined that a 76-year-old male was operating his motorized wheelchair when he accidentally drove into the Old Cut Channel located behind a residence. Alert family member’s witnesses this event and immediately entered the channel where they located the male in approximately 8 feet of water.

The male was brought to the surface and eventually back onto land. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

“The Norfolk County OPP wanted to take this opportunity to thank the alert family members that immediately jumped into the water. By their quick thinking actions, they were able to save this man’s life and prevent a tragedy from occurring”, comments Inspector Zvonko Horvat, Norfolk County OPP Detachment Commander.
