$17,000 Drug Bust

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On January 20, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street, in the town of Blind River.

At 12:29 p.m., police observed a westbound vehicle on Causley Street and a traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the investigation police detected an odour of marihuana and the vehicle was searched. Police located a plastic baggy containing small amount of cannabis marijuana, a cannabis marihuana cigarette and several jars of cannabis resin with an approximate street value over $17000.

Christopher GILLIES, 25 years of age, from Montreal, Quebec, was arrested and charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Resin – over 1 gram, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and

Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Under 3 kilograms.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie Bail Court on January 22, 2016.

OPP TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On January 20, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on snowmobile patrol duties on Matinenda Lake, north of Blind River.

As the officers approached Matinenda Lake landing at Highway 557, they observed a vehicle in the parking lot. A traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the investigation police detected an odour of marihuana and the vehicle was searched. Police located a plastic baggy containing small amount of cannabis marijuana and drug paraphernalia items.

The passenger, Tyra GAUTHIER, 19 years of age, from Blind River was arrested and charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 3, 2016.
