(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – An early morning Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint put the brakes on a 57-year-old driver on Labour Day Monday. Just before 10:00 a.m. a Jeep Grand Cherokee entered into the checkpoint that was set up at the intersection of Bluewater Veteran’s Highway and Saltford Road. Upon speaking with the male driver the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment for breath tests. Upon providing two samples of his breath his results had lowered into the warn range level. As a result, the 57-year-old driver from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh was released from custody and served with a three day driver’s licence suspension and a ticket for Driver Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor.
