Spike Strip & K9 Used To Stop & Arrest Impaired Hit & Run Driver

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a London resident with a total of 17 offences following an investigation on October 18th, 2023. 

On Wednesday, October 18th, just after 2:30 a.m. Lambton County OPP officers advised Huron County OPP officers that a vehicle had almost collided with an OPP cruiser in Grand Bend and had failed to stop for police. The SUV was last seen speeding northbound on Bluewater Highway towards Bayfield. Officers observed the suspect vehicle enter Bayfield and collide with a small vessel that was parked in a lot off the highway. A tire deflation device (TDD) was utilized successfully, and the suspect exited the SUV fleeing on foot. An OPP K-9 unit, along with OPP Emergency Response Team members (ERT) were dispatched to the scene and tracked the suspect, who was placed under arrest.

Mohamad ELMUTIGIN, 26 years of age from London has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired,

–      Refusal to Comply with Demand,

–      Flight From Police,

–      Dangerous Operation,

–      Fail to Stop after Accident,

–      Operation while Prohibited – (four counts),

–      Fail to Comply with Release Order.

The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with the following offences:

–      Drive while Suspended – (5 counts),

–      Red Light – Fail to Stop,

–      G1 Driver Violation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, where they were remanded into custody.
