22 Year Old Uninsured Drunk Driver Arrested

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A Central Huron resident is facing several driving related charges following a recent traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On August 26, 2022 at approximately 5:50 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling on London Road when the officer observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound at a high rate of speed. A RADAR device measured the speed of the vehicle in excess of 50 km/h over the 90 km/h speed limit.

A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver was displaying some signs of alcohol consumption thus a roadside test was administered. The driver complied with the test and provided a sample that resulted in a fail. The accused was immediately placed under arrest for Over 80.

The accused was subsequently transported to the Huron Detachment for further testing. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.

Some additional investigation also revealed the motor vehicle involved was not insured, improperly plated and not fit for the roadway.

Desmond KAUFMAN, 22 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with: Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, Drive Motor Vehicle Perform a Stunt – Excessive Speed, Operate Unsafe Vehicle, Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance and Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 19, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
