Karanvir GILL – Drinking and Driving

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – The driver of a Freightliner tractor and trailer had to find alternative transportation home after he was stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) check on Saturday afternoon. On November 30, 2013 at approximately 4:30 p.m. the 40 year old commercial motor vehicle driver entered the R.I.D.E program set up at the intersection of Benmiller Line and Hemlock Lane. A Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spoke with the driver and noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. Also, an open bottle of liquor was observed beside the driver. A roadside test was performed which the driver failed. He was arrested and subsequently transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests.

The driver later failed to provide suitable samples of his breath to the Intoxilizer technician.

Karanvir GILL, 40 years of age from Brampton has been charged with Refuse to Provide Sample and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol. He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on January 27, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the tractor engine was impounded for seven days.
