(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) -On December 2, 2013 at approximately 5:21 p.m. officers from the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling southbound on Highway 6 near County Road 22 in Centre Wellington Township. At that time and location officers observed a motor vehicle westbound on County Road 22 slow down as it approached the intersection then proceed southbound on Highway 6 forcing the heavy traffic behind it to take evasive action in order to avoid a collision. Police stopped the 2008 Buick and spoke to the driver who had been drinking.
Stephen Burnett age 52 of Burlington has been charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80 mgs and Dangerous Driving contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on December 18, 2013 to answer to the charges.
The driver received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for a period of seven days.
