FOUR IMPAIRED ARRESTS OVER WEEKEND

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged four people with Impaired Driving following four separate occurrences over the weekend.

On Friday, December 13, 2013 at 7:00 pm police stopped a vehicle on Chipman Street in the City of Kenora. They determined the driver had been drinking and he was arrested for Impaired Driving and transported for breath tests. As a result of the investigation, 36 year old Frank LANDON of Wabauskang First Nations Territory (FNT) has been charged with Impaired Driving, Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample and Drive Disqualified contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). He was released and is to appear in court on January 30, 2014 to answer to the charge.

On Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:19 am police stopped a vehicle on Main Street in the City of Kenora. The police determined the driver had been drinking and he was arrested. As a result of the investigation, 28 year old Wesley REID of Kenora has been charged with Impaired Driving and Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). He was released and is to appear in court on January 16, 2014 to answer to the charge.

On Sunday, December 15, 2013 shortly after 2:00 am police stopped a vehicle on First Street South in the City of Kenora. The police determined the driver had been drinking and she was arrested. As a result of the investigation, 20 year old Lorna SMITH of Kenora has been charged with Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). She was released and is to appear in court on January 16, 2014 to answer to the charge.

On Monday, December 16, 2013 at approximately 2:30 am police stopped a vehicle on Lakeview Drive in the City of Kenora Police determined the driver had been drinking and placed him under arrest. As a result of the investigation, 39 year old Laurent TOLTON of Kenora has been charged Impaired Driving contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). He was released and is to appear in court on January 30, 2014 to answer to the charge.

The Kenora Detachment of the OPP reminds drivers that Impaired Driving remains the number one Criminal cause of death in Canada. Impaired driving claims the lives of approximately 4 Canadians every day. (www.madd.ca)

If you plan on drinking, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit.
