(CALEDON, ON) – On February 14, 2014 shortly before 8 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint of a speeding motor vehicle on Old Church Road from Regional Road 50. The officers located the 2002 blue Acura on Old Church Road at Innis Lake Road. The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and two male passengers. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Subsequently, the driver was escorted to the back of the officer’s cruiser for the purpose of a roadside test. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver was on parole with conditions to not consume, purchase or be in possession of prescribed drugs or alcohol. As a result, the male was arrested and a search of the driver uncovered a quantity of drugs, believed to be cocaine.
As a result of the arrest, the officers searched the motor vehicle and uncovered a quantity of drugs, believed to be marijuana and hashish in the possession of a 17 year-old male.
In conclusion, John Foster THOMPSON, 61, of East York, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule I substance. A 17 year-old male was arrested with 2 counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance. His name is not being released due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Both accused persons were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 7th, 2014 to answer to their respective charges.
