(NOTTAWASAGA, ON)- The Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been steady with motor vehicle collisions 27 January, 2014 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm, Police responded to fifteen motor vehicle collisions, some multiple in nature.

Earlier we had County Road 27 and Highway 89 closed, they have both been re-opened. Currently, we have a portion of County Road 56 closed from the 30th to 25th Sideroad of Essa Township.

At this time of year, we are experiencing changing temperatures, please be mindful of the changes in the temperature and road conditions. Adjust your driving accordingly, reducing your speed will give you the necessary time to react.

Be aware of “black ice”, a virtually transparent ice which allows black asphalt to appear clear and ice free, this poses a danger as driver’s are unable to see the ice.

Prepare your vehicle with some items that can help you if you have to turn your vehicle off during a collision, have a warm blanket, a flashlight, a flare to warn other motorists of your vehicle’s location. If you can, have a cellular phone for communication, remember for emergency calls dial 911 and non-emergency calls use 1-888-310-1122.
